Brian McFadden is releasing a new single today (available on itunes, for all you avid fans) titled “Just the Way You Are, (Drunk at the Bar)”. However, this song has got him into a bit of trouble as there have been claims that the song promotes date rape.
The song features lyrics such as “I like you just the way you are, drunk in the back seat of my car”. and “I can’t wait to get you home so I can take advantage/I can’t wait to get you home so I can do some damage”. If I’m going to be honest, the lyrics do shout out rape, so I’m really unsure as to how it even got passed to a producer. Also, according to Universal Records, the video to accompany the song is somewhat controversial. Lets just hope the video isn’t as suggestive as the song.
Though after listening to the song, I’m not sure the suggestive rape lyrics are the biggest of McFadden’s problems. It’s got a house beat, a banjo, and then to top all of that off, he seems to be attempting to rap at the end? I can’t handle that mix of elements, I feel like my brain is going to fall out of my head.
