If anyone deserves a big Hollywood comeback, it’s Brendan Fraser. Especially in an industry filled with pretentious, unlikable w-nkers in which he’s one of very few exceptions. Hopefully that happens for him with much-anticipated ‘The Whale’, which received its first trailer today:

Welp, a one minute trailer and 45 seconds of it are just quotes from critics. Looking forward to it either way, but here’s the synopsis for anyone that’s curious:

The story follows a 600-pound reclusive English teacher, Charlie (Brendan Fraser), who has decided to reconnect with his 17 year old daughter and eat himself to death. Charlie’s pain and misery come from the abandonment and death of his lover, which leads to his chronic binge-eating.

When ‘The Whale’ was screened at the Venice Film Festival back in June, it received a 6-minute standing ovation that brought Fraser to tears:

What a guy. So pumped for Brendan Fraser after everything he’s been through that got him blackballed from Hollywood in the first place (accusing Philip Berk, the then-president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, of sexual assault). Not to mention several surgeries for injuries he picked up performing his own stunts, his wife divorcing him, and mum dying of cancer. That all sent him into a deep depression that it seems he’s finally coming full circle from. Go Brendan Go!
