Get ready for more A-list court room shenanigans because Brad Pitt is officially suing Angelina Jolie for selling her stake in their co-owned French vineyard.
As reported in The Guardian, Pitt has filed legal papers with Los Angeles County Superior Court as part of a long-running legal dispute between the pair over Chateau Miraval – the wine company they acquired in 2008 before their marriage in 2014.
Pitt claims that Jolie deliberately “sought to inflict harm on” him by selling her share of their company to a rival investor after their divorce in 2019. Jolie sold her share to Tenute del Mondo, a wine-making company “indirectly owned and controlled by Yuri Shefler, the Russian billionaire who controls the Stoli Group” and which is “bent on taking control of Miraval”.
Jolie made $164m (£131.2m) from the deal, while Pitt took legal action to try to retain a majority share in the company (they owned a majority share together, but with Jolie selling her share it means Pitt no longer has majority and decision-making abilities). The legal document reads:
“The vineyard became Pitt’s passion – and a profitable one, as Miraval, under Pitt’s stewardship, has grown into a multimillion-dollar international success story and one of the world’s most highly regarded producers of rose wine.
She sold her interest with the knowledge and intention that Shefler and his affiliates would seek to control the business to which Pitt had devoted himself and to undermine Pitt’s investment in Miraval.
Jolie pursued and then consummated the purported sale in secret, purposely keeping Pitt in the dark, and knowingly violating Pitt’s contractual rights.”
So it sounds like Jolie may have broken a contractual agreement by selling her share to their #1 rival, or by selling in secret, or selling at all. There must be something shady going for Brad Pitt to want to drag it through the courts and very publicly so. The question is – can we watch the Pitt/Jolie trial on YouTube and are we going to have to take sides all over again? It’s gonna be like watching Mr & Mrs Smith again… except in real life.
Interesting how this is making headlines immediately after the conclusion to Johnny Depp Vs Amber Heard, which was a huge success as far as entertaining/distracting us all. Why not run it again with Brad Pitt taking on Angelina Jolie?
