A 6ft 3in bearded bouncer managed to get through airport security using his petite, brunette girlfriend’s passport — and yes, their pictures look nothing alike.
Josh Reed accidently picked up the wrong passport when he left to go on a lads’ holiday. Without realising his mistake he boarded the Rynair flight to Dortmund from Stansted airport and made it all the way through checking in and security.
It was only once he had landed that he realised it actually belonged to his girlfriend, Sophie Watkins. By then, it was too late to do anything about it and he had to get back through the other side using his driving licence. Sophie couriered his passport over for the return journey (although sounds like they’re slack enough, he probably didn’t need to bother). Josh said:
I thought it was my passport, the lady checked it with my boarding pass. It wasn’t until we landed that I spotted it.
We have different surnames and we couldn’t look more different.
It makes you wonder how easy it would be for people that look alike to get through on fake passports.
A spokesperson for Ryanair said:
Swissport, our handling agent at the boarding gate, mistakenly failed to check the passport of this passenger.
It assured us appropriate steps will be taken to prevent a recurrence.
I mean, most people complain that security has become too strict at airports but clearly it can’t be that bad if a beefed-up bouncer can pass as a woman. Maybe they’ve just got bigger fish to fry — like dealing with the kind of people that casually rock up to the airport butt naked.
