The identity of the ‘bored’ security guard who ‘ruined’ a £740,000 painting by drawing eyes on it has been revealed. Alexander Vasiliev, 63, also explained what was going on in his head that caused him to doodle some eyeballs on a faceless work of art (via MailOnline):

To be honest, I didn’t really like these pictures [at the exhibition]

I watched how people reacted, and then I saw teenagers, 16 or 17, standing and discussing why there are no eyes, no mouth, and no beauty.

There were girls in the group, and they asked me: “Draw on the eyes, you work here.” I asked them: “Are these your works?” They replied: “Yes”. ‘They gave me a pen. I drew the eyes. I thought it was just their children’s drawings.

There aren’t too many groups more intimidating than a gang of teenage girls, to be fair. But still – how gullible can you get? Vasiliev, who is now being investigated by the police for vandalism, admitted:

I’m a fool, for what I’ve done. If only I knew it wasn’t these kids’ pictures and the paintings were brought from Moscow and they cost so much. What have I done?

Love this guy. To be fair to him, most art these days can be confused for children’s drawings so maybe it wasn’t that much of a stretch. Still, it’s just hilarious to think this a group of teenage Mean Girls manipulated him so easily. Then again, what 63-year-old security guard wouldn’t immediately fold for a group of teenage girls? He’s the victim in all this, clearly. Let him off with a warning and punish the gang of unruly teenagers instead.
