The director of a leading German ballet company is being investigated by police and has been suspended for smearing dog shxt on a critic’s face after taking offense to a review she wrote.
As per Sky News, Marco Goecke, the head of Hanover State Opera’s ballet company, confronted journalist Wiebke Hüster during the intermission of a ballet premiere performance last weekend. Goecke threatened to ban the critic from the Hannover State Opera, and then pulled out a paper bag with dog poo in it, which he smeared all over her face. Schizer!
Goecke has since apologised for his behaviour with the following statement:
“I would like to apologise sincerely to all concerned, first and foremost to Ms Huester, for my absolutely unacceptable act.
In retrospect, I am clearly aware that this was a disgraceful act in the heat of the moment and an overreaction.”
Well yeah, it probably was a bit of an overreaction, all things considered. At the same time though, I don’t think he regrets it at all. Think about it. Every critic and journalist in Germany now knows not to mess with Marco Goecke. Any time you leave a negative review on one of his ballet shows, you run the risk of receiving a face-full of dog faeces. It’s actually a genius move by Goecke and well worth being temporarily suspended from his position, not to mention the immense satisfaction he must’ve got out of it.
Just goes to show, sometimes you need to go to insane lengths to protect your life’s work. Marco Goecke has solidified himself in the ballet scene as someone who is not to be fxcked with under any circumstances. Well played, all in all.
