BabyCenter has released its list of most popular baby names for 2015, and a really annoying pattern has emerged — an increasing number of millennial parents are naming their kids after Instagram filters.

The most popular name derived from the app was ‘Lux’, which rose 75% on the list of baby boy names compared to last year.
Ludwig, Amaro, Reyes, Hudson and Kelvin also increased substantially in popularity. For baby girls the fastest-rising names are Juno, Valencia and Willow.
The site gathered data from more than 340,000 parents around the world. Despite the rise in Instagram-based names, the most popular names were relatively normal ones — Jackson and Sophia.

I guess some of those names, like ‘Lux’, are pretty ridiculous. But at least Ludwig and Juno were actual names before they were Instagram filters. Still, you know it’s only a matter of time before some wanky hipster couple name their kid ‘X-Pro II’ or ‘Lo-Fi’ or something. And that’s the same wanky hipster couple who’ll be uploading photos of their kid onto Instagram non-stop. Not that there’s anything wrong with uploading baby pics onto social media it’s just when you start seeing photos of the same kid every few hours it gets to the point where you want to punch them in the face.
Not to mention you’ll blatantly catch these kids listening to music on cassette players in 2035 because it’ll be the “edgy” thing to do.
Still, at least it’s not as ridiculous as what rapper Chief Keef named his newborn son this year. Serious face-palms on that one.
