SC: How much longer do you plan on being on stage for? What’s the long-term plan?
AH: I’ve planned for another 2-3 years, but who knows! when I was a geeky wee 16 year old photographer just starting her career behind the camera, I would never have imagined that just three years later I’d begin a whirlwind career in front of it!
SC: For anyone out there interested in becoming a showgirl/showman – how do you get your foot in the industry and what other advice can you offer?
AH: I’d say, really analyse your reasons for wanting to be a performer, if you’re wanting the glamour and the pay check, it really does not come easily. If you love it, and you’ve done enough research, spent the time, money and mind diligently figuring out exactly what you want and why, you will get there. Performing is the biggest rush I think I could ever imagine, and I’m so lucky to be doing something like this as my full time career, but it did not come without serious grit and determination, having impostors and people copying what I worked so hard for along the way, and having my toes and everything else more or less trod on, on the ascent. It is a tough tough world, but the rewards, for someone who loves it, are more than worth it.
SC: Finally, where can our readers see you in action?
AH: My residency Proud cabaret in Camden most Thursday, Friday and Saturdays, and I post about other shows that I’m doing all over my Twitter every week. My website is also coming, and my merchandise site is already up and just beginning!
