Did you know that anyone anywhere in the world made things out of fish skin? No nor me.
The products are designed by Akhmed Shadiev from Ingushetia. He says they’re popular in Canada, China, Chile and all over Europe. I don’t believe him.
He uses the skin of loads of different fishes including trout, salmon, carp, sturgeon, lumpfish and starlet. Here’s his team at work:
Shadiev says fish leather is more elastic, durable and easier to paint than mammal leather.
Fish leather can be used for making clothes, furniture, souvenirs, interior products, belts, headdresses, purses etc. Does it smell funny though? That’s the main question I’d want answering before I ordered.
The shoes look just awful don’t they?
