Burgers are undoubtedly one of the best things in the world, so it makes sense that if you were an astronaut hanging out in space then you might want to tuck into one from time to time aside from all the weird astronaut food you inevitably have to eat.
Unfortunately for them, space cheeseburgers look absolutely disgusting, as you can probably tell by the picture above. To put it bluntly, it looks like somebody has had diarrhoea all over a wrap and then added some kind of out of date squeeze cheese and dog food to the deal. Absolutely rank.
In actual fact, a space cheeseburger allegedly (and we really do mean allegedly here, look at that thing) contains beef patties, Russian mustard, tomato paste, cheese paste and a tortilla. Yeah, I suppose that’s passable but man if it doesn’t look like puke to me. Probably the saddest thing about it is that it’s not even placed between a bun but a tortilla instead – surely that makes it more of a completely gross taco than a burger?

The reason we’ve been blessed with this knowledge is that astronaut Terry Virts decided to tweet it last week to get involved with the hashtag #foodporn. I’m not sure what’s more deluded – the fact that he thought this was a viable option for the hashtag, or the fact that he also accompanied it with the comment ‘very tasty’. Has this guy ever eaten a burger made on the planet Earth before? Does he even know what the hell a burger is?
To be honest, I don’t know why astronauts don’t take a stockpile of McDonald’s burgers into space. Sure, we don’t know what they’re actually made of but we know that they don’t decompose – even after five years – and still taste OK, and it’s gotta be better than what Terry Virts is serving up, right?
