In 2011 nearly 33,000 Americans were victims of gun-related deaths.
The Brady Campaign, who are an organisation that lobby for stricter gun laws, reports that 32 Americans are murdered with guns and 140 are treated for a gun assault in an emergency room every day. On top of that, 51 people kill themselves with a firearm and 45 people are shot or killed in an accident with a gun each day.
1 in 3 Americans know someone who’s been shot.
Trigger locks can be added to guns to make them harder to fire and therefore safer. Only nine states legislate to make them mandatory.
I can kind of understand why you would own a hand gun for self-defense, but there is literally no need at all for that many rifles.
