It’s only Monday morning and we’re already getting the woke brigade complaining about something that isn’t really that big an issue after they decided they had a problem with Argos using the ‘sexist’ term ‘two- man delivery’ on their promotional materials.

The news was brought to the attention of the world via an anonymous Twitter account with a bunch of numbers in the name. This was then backed up by another anonymous Twitter account that Argos mistook for a real one and so decided to issue a reply.
Check all that out below (read it all for a plot twist at the end):
Hi Lisa, we have recently changed the terminology for our delivery types which I’m sure will be reflected in our stores in due course – BH

Hi Joe, we have recently rebranded these delivery types to ‘small items’ and ‘large items’ and all the signage is being changed in our stores, although this may take some time to complete. We do indeed have female delivery colleagues – Zoe

Change brought about by the few to the benefit of none. People like Lisa are what’s wrong with the world.

Lol. Turns out that the ‘Joe Public’ account didn’t really care about the ‘gendered’ language in the sign and were just trolling Argos, but I suppose it’s still useful that he (?) managed to discover that there were female delivery colleagues working for the company as well.
I suppose using gendered language is a problem for some people but it still seems strange to me that people can get so angry about a phrase like that being up in a shop because it’s just been used for so long. It’ll gradually fade out as the older generation move on, but I don’t think there’s any real need for this level of outrage. Just let it happen in its own time – what’s the harm in that?
Also, the fact that both of the accounts in this story were anonymous makes me think that maybe they were both just trolling Argos about it in the first place and they weren’t really that offended about it anyway? Just an idea.
For more of the same, check out this sexist advert that was removed from King’s Cross station after backlash. That was probably slightly more justified.
