Even if you stopped watching the fight after Usyk’s split decision win over Joshua on Saturday night, I’m sure you will have heard about AJ’s bizarre speech about Ukraine, Rocky Marciano, going to jail, his weight and whatever else because it was pretty much been the subject of every meme on the internet yesterday.

Unsurprisingly, in the cold light of day Joshua has realised that this was a major error and issued the following statement to everyone last night about it:

Well, that’s not quite an apology is it but more a justification of his weird behaviour; to be fair to the guy though he did he just get slapped around the ring for 36 minutes and then found out he had lost and that his career was pretty much finished as a result. Obviously he’s gonna be a bit angry and emotional, but somebody from his team probably should have stepped in and stopped him from doing that because the memes are gonna be the absolute end of the guy now.
People are always saying be kind to people in the public eye and although Joshua’s behaviour was pretty rogue and borderline unacceptable, we should probably have some respect for him and what he’s done for UK boxing over the last few years and his emotional state after this and give him somewhat of a break. Sad to see a fairly meteoric rise to the top end like this, but I guess that’s the way it goes sometimes.
