Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is quite possibly one of the most famous people in the world right now, love him or hate him he’s certainly left a mark.
He was born into a humble family in Leningrad in 1952, his father was in the Navy and his mother worked in a factory. He was the youngest of three, with both brothers passing whilst he was still quite young.
Putin joined the KGB in 1975, and his career in the institution is a matter of pride. His role may not have been as influential as he’d like us to think though, one biographer said that “Putin and his colleagues were reduced mainly to collecting press clippings, thus contributing to the mountains of useless information produced by the KGB”.
His strongman sporty image is pretty important to him and he never misses a photo op to look like an action man. For example, in 2007, the tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda published a huge photograph of a bare-chested Putin vacationing in the Siberian mountains under the headline: “Be Like Putin”.
