Sir David Attenborough
“We are a plague on the Earth”
There’s not many people who I would genuinely refer to as a legend but Attenborough is one of them. I had the pleasure of meeting him once (when I say “meet” I mean “nervously handed him a copy of his autobiography to sign”). If you don’t believe my impressive star story here’s a picture (even though you can’t tell it’s me or him):
He is often referred to as a national treasure which he isn’t that keen on, but it’s tough because he is. Attenborough is the middle child of three brothers, we’re all familiar with Richard of course, and his younger brother John who became an executive at the car manufacturers Alfa Romeo. John sadly died in 2012.
Here’s David with a wandering albatross chick:
David’s father was Principal at University College, Leicester and David spent a lot of time in the university grounds as a kid. On one occasion, aged 11, he discovered that the zoology department was in need of a number of newts. The young entrepreneur promised to supply them for a small fee. Although his source wasn’t disclosed at the time, he was actually liberating them from a pond just five metres from the department building.
And another cheery quote:
“I think we’re lucky to be living when we are, because things are going to get worse”
And isn’t it great when someone respectable backs up your crackpot theories?:
“I believe the Abominable Snowman may be real. I think there may be something in that”
