For the past week, Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks have been trading barbs on Twitter after Azaelia said the following during an appearance on Hot 97 radio:
That Iggy Azalea shit isn’t better than any fucking black girl that’s rapping today. The Grammy are supposed to be accolades of artistic excellence. Iggy Azalea is not excellent. When they give these Grammys out, all it says to white kids is, ‘Oh yeah, you’re great, you’re amazing, you can do whatever you put your mind to.’ And it says to black kids, ‘You don’t have shit. You don’t own shit, not even the shit you created for yourself.’ And it makes me upset.
Iggy responded on Twitter by telling Banks she had a “piss poor attitude” and that’s why she wasn’t “likeable”. She also claimed the only way Banks could get any attention was to start beef with people like her. Banks responded by claiming what she said was more to do with society and the media in general than Iggy and that Iggy had “absolutely no place to comment” (despite the fact Banks had pretty much called her out).
Things heated up after civilian Eric Garner was killed in broad daylight by police. Banks noted Iggy was happy to promote and sell ‘black culture’ but wouldn’t get involved in the #EricGarner hashtags like all other black celebrities. Iggy hit back saying Banks was using real world issues “as an excuse to promote fan battles.”
Well on Friday night, Anonymous issued a threat demanding Iggy apologise to Banks for “misappropriating black culture, insulting peaceful protesters, and making light of Eric Garder’s deatih”…. Or else:
We apologize for our followers with regards to this following statement: Fuck you, @IGGYAZALEA. #ICantBreathe

The clock is ticking. – TheAnonMessage (@TheAnonMessage) December 20, 2014
Yikes – you have to be bricking it if you’re Iggy Azalea right now. This is the last thing she needs after Eminem saying he wants to rape her and then being involved in one of the most brutal on stage lip sync fails ever.
At the risk of pissing them off, I reckon Anonymous have lost some cool points here. While Iggy may be immature or undeserving of some of her accolades, it does seem like Banks picked the fight with her. Stick to screwing with the government guys, we don’t want to see you picking on white girls from Australia who ‘act black’ for a living.
