I think most people in this country love picking up a greasy Chinese takeaway at the weekend – you know, some egg fried rice, sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken chow mein, prawn crackers and whatever else – but it turns out that Americans are absolutely disgusted by our idea of a cheeky Chinese.

Of course, this has all come to a head on TikTok with a bunch of Americans starting their videos by saying that they’re not going to judge anyone for their takeaway order and then proceeding to completely and utterly judge them for pretty much every aspect of it. The main problem that they have is the fact that we drench everything in curry sauce, but they’ve also got major beef with the fact that we love having chips with a Chinese and pretty much that everything is ‘inauthentic’ about it – especially when compared to American Chinese food. Give me a break
Anyway, get a load of this (just a brief selection of the millions of TikTok videos out there now):

Geez those Americans really need to get a life hey? I know it’s probably kind of funny seeing us do Chinese food like that when they’re used to the ‘authentic stuff’ over in America, but when you look at this history of the cuisine in this country then it does actually make a lot of sense.
Just a quick crash course for those of you that are unfamiliar with how ‘Chinese takeaways’ started in this country: back in the 1950s and 60s when a bunch of Chinese Hong Kong people emigrated to this country, it made sense for those starting restaurants/takeaways to present a fusion of Chinese and British food to their customer base. That’s why dishes like sweet and sour chicken balls ended up on the menu – not exactly authentic Chinese, but appealing enough for British people to get stuck into.
And that’s why Chinese takeaways have remained the staple that they are in this country. Not exactly rocket science is it you dumb Yanks? Go shoot up the school or something before you start dissing our culture.
