It’s not been the best year for Hollywood legend Alec Baldwin, and by extension it can’t be too easy on his wife Hilaria either. That’s not to say she doesn’t have controversies of her own, though.

The TV personality is born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, but for some reason, frequently speaks with a Spanish accent and pretends to struggle remembering English words for things. For example:

I’m pretty sure people from Boston know how to say “cucumber”, and so people have been on Hilaria’s case for years about her fake accent and how much she begs being Spanish. This week, she was being hounded by the press for a comment on the Rust shooting involving her husband, and the fake Spanish accent returned:

In case there are any doubts, here’s Hilaria speaking her native tongue – American:

Now obviously if a mum with young kids is asking the paparazzi to leave her alone in peace, any reasonable person is going to support that. She deserves all the privacy in the world, especially at a time like this. But to lapse back into the fake accent that was exposed to the world years ago? It’s hardly going to help people sympathise, and of course the internet has been having a field day with it.

Her argument is that she has two cultures and she adopts a Spanish accent whenever she’s recently visited Spain, which is completely absurd tbh. If her first language was Spanish, then I could understand her going back to it whenever she’s stressed or excited. But you don’t unconsciously adopt an accent that isn’t yours, do you?

So yeah, shame this interaction between her and the press has become about her fake persona rather than an example of how ruthless and wretched the paparazzi are, but that’s on Hilaria for putting on a dumb Spanish accent, I’m afraid. The Baldwins are always putting their foot in it, aren’t they?
