Alec Baldwin’s wife Hilaria is born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, but for some reason, frequently speaks with a Spanish accent and pretends to struggle remembering English words for things. For example:
How do you say in English? Oh cucumber! 🥒 😂 #hilariabaldwin pic.twitter.com/loQeNBP2To

I’m pretty sure people from Boston know how to say “cucumber” and “onion”, but despite the ridicule Hilaria received over this, the fake Spanish accent keeps returning, like when she had a go at paparazzi for following her around while she was on the school run:

In case there are any doubts, here’s Hilaria speaking her native tongue – American:

Well, now that the Baldwins have their own reality TV show, Hilaria had the perfect opportunity to address her fake Spanish accent, and insisted it was ‘normal’ that she mixes English and Spanish, because after all, her family is from Spain. Hilaria says:
‘My nuclear family now lives over in Spain. I want to teach my kids pride in speaking more than one language.
‘I think just growing up speaking two languages is extremely special. I love English and I also love Spanish, and when I mix the two, it doesn’t make me inauthentic.
‘When I mix the two, it makes me normal!’
On the criticism she receives for her fake Spanish accent:
‘I would be lying if I said it didn’t make me sad and it didn’t hurt and it didn’t put me in dark places.
‘But it was my family, my friends, my community who speak multiple languages, who have belonged in multiple places, and realize that we are a mix of all these different things and that is going to have an impact on how we sound and how we articulate things and the words that we choose and our mannerisms.
‘That normal. That’s what’s called being human.’
Sorry, I’m not buying it. What Hilaria is talking about is being bilingual, which is totally normal but completely different to putting on a fake accent and pretending to forget words in your first language. If her first language was Spanish, then I could understand her going back to it whenever she’s stressed or excited. But you don’t unconsciously adopt an accent that isn’t yours, do you?
Well anyway, I suppose this sort of behaviour is par for the course when you’re one half of a self-obsessed celebrity couple with their own reality TV show. Be yourself, Hilaria! Who knows, people might actually like you!
For the time Alec Baldwin thought it would be a good idea to share a photo of the cinematogropher he accidentally killed on the one-year anniversary of her death, click HERE. The Baldwins are always putting their foot in it, aren’t they?
