Following his rise to prominence in the latest season of ‘The White Lotus’, Theo James is tipped to play George Michael in an upcoming biopic of the pop singer – mainly because they’re both slightly Greek I think.

Anyway, I don’t think anyone really cares about that at all to be honest and if they do then there’s probably something wrong with them because it’s a really big piece of non news, but surprise surprise here’s Adam Lambert of all people kicking off over the fact that James is straight and would be portraying a gay man. Lambert made his comment on the following Instagram post and it’s inspired a load of debate:
Yay another straight man playing a gay icon. 🙄
I’m normally verging on woke in some of these posts, but I genuinely can’t see why people get so upset by gay or trans characters being portrayed by actors who aren’t? Yes, I do understand that there might be less opportunities in the industry for LGBTQ+ people, but at the end of the day it’s acting so it shouldn’t really be about whether a character is being played by an actor with the same sexuality? Isn’t that what acting is all about in the first place?
Seems weird to me that people would demand that an actor has to have the same sexuality as a character, but maybe I’m in the wrong. It should be more about reforming the movie industry so that LGBTQ+ actors have more opportunities somehow, not necessarily about them solely playing characters with the same characteristics. Sue me.
