When you think about the dumbest movies of the 1990s, it’s undeniable that Jim Carrey’s name will come up and this of course goes hand in hand with the Ace Ventura franchise. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then I included a compilation of the best quotes below – get educated now.

To say that Jim Carrey pretty much IS Ace Ventura goes without saying, which makes the news that the series is being rebooted all the more dismaying. Nevertheless, Hollywood can’t resist a shot at revisiting something that has already made loads of money in an attempt to make even more money, so here we are.

It’s all down to the company behind the original movie Morgan Creek Productions changing its name to Morgan Creek Entertainment Group and making a big push amongst features, digital and television, which means exploiting some of their extensive back catalogue that includes Ace Ventura. Here’s what they had to say:

With the Ace Ventura franchise, we wanted to do a mainstream theatrical production relaunch.

The idea is not to do a straight remake but a new movie in the spirit of the original, part of Morgan Creek’s strategy to honor its library properties with the new takes without undercutting them.

Because it’s episodic in nature, about a pet detective, it also lends itself to a traditional single-camera series franchise.

We would welcome Jim Carrey to reprise one of his signature roles as Ace Ventura.

The current concept eyed for an Ace Ventura reboot is “a baton-handing,” – a long-lost son or daughter of Ace possibly showing up at his doorstep and taking over.

Well, that doesn’t sound TOO bad if Jim Carrey himself is going to show up in it, but can you really see him reprising that role considering the way he’s been acting in Hollywood recently? The idea of getting someone to play a young Ace Ventura probably isn’t going to be too successful though – I mean look how Shia LaBoeuf turned out in Indiana Jones. Still, at least they’re not trying to ruin it by doing a straight up reboot, I suppose we should be thankful for that.
