After years of speculation and even rumours that we were looking at a non-binary James Bond to take the franchise into the future, it seems like 007 producers have finally selected Daniel Craig’s replacement: Marvel star Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
No, not the girl from the Queen’s Gambit (that’s Anya Taylor-Joy). Aaron Taylor-Johnson may not exactly be a household name, but he’s starred in Bullet Train, Tenet, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and both Kick-Ass films. If you’ve seen Bullet Train, he was actually really good in the role of Tangerine, and you can kinda see how he’d suit the Bond role too:
Even still, news of his casting doesn’t seem to have gone down particularly well with 007 enthusiasts. They were expecting the new James Bond to be an Idris Elba, Cillian Murphy or Henry Cavill level of superstar. Even Barry Keoghan was getting a few shouts! But instead it’s a relative unknown in Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who will have to sink or swim in the role and potentially become a major player off the back of it.
Now keep in mind – while word that 007 producers have found their man is being widely reported, it’s The Sun and GB News who are insisting that man is Aaron Taylor-Johnson. So not exactly the most trustworthy sources around, but they seem pretty sure of this one, even citing a source that said the following:
“Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back. As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.”
I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out. Now that the word is apparently out there, there should be confirmation soon enough that Aaron Taylor-Johnson has signed up to take one of the most coveted roles in cinema, and I guess we can only wish him good luck from that point. Let’s hope they give him some solid scripts and villains to work with, not to mention a top class Bond girl to romance.
Speaking of which, it’s looking very good on the Bond girl front. Go Aaron Go!
