A plus-sized female rapper is suing Lyft after a driver refused her service because he didn’t believe she could fit in his sedan.

36-year-old Dajua Blanding AKA Dank Demoss recorded the incident for TikTok, with the driver apologetically telling her that his tyres couldn’t handle her weight, and advising that she order a Uber XL instead:

Dank Demoss is now suing Lyft for discrimination, given that weight is a protected characteristic in Michigan and as such is treated the same as age, race or gender (crazy, I know). Indeed, Demoss’s lawyers say that denying someone a ride based on their weight is be the same as denying someone because of their race or religion – at least under the law.

Demoss told FOX 2: “I’ve been in cars smaller than that. I just want them to know that it hurt my feelings.”

I’m not sure that going public with this story is the best approach if it hurt her feelings that much, because the internet has been taking the p1ss out out Dank Demoss non-stop ever since this story broke. Did she think the internet was going to offer her sympathy or something? She’s already getting meme’d into oblivion as we speak, which I’m not going to share here but you can easily find by just searching her name on X.

Amazingly, it does sound like the law is on Dank Demoss’s side on this one, at least in Michigan where this all went down. Even Lyft sided with her as they completely threw their driver under the bus with this statement:

“Lyft unequivocally condemns all forms of discrimination—we believe in a community where everyone is treated with equal respect and mutual kindness. Our community guidelines and terms of service explicitly prohibit harassment or discrimination.”

Poor driver. As an independent contractor, you would think he has the right to accept or refuse anyone he wants into his own personal vehicle. It’s not like Lyft would pay for new suspension if she did end up wrecking his car, is it? I guess we’ll have to wait and see how it all pans out in court.
