In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a new film starring Peter Andre as a fake Jamaican gangster coming out, and as you might’ve guessed, it’s stirred a bit of controversy.

Basically people are not happy that Peter Andre is putting on a fake Jamaican accent and wearing fake dreadlocks to portray the role, although you have to give him props for stopping short at blackface.

The storyline hook is as follows: “Desperate to secure £35,000 for his gran’s care, small-time crook Gazza jumps on a risky tip-off and hatches a daring scam. With just 21 days to pull it off, he must immerse himself in Jamaican culture to con his way between London and Jamaica.”

It’s obviously a completely unserious film, but there’s been enough backlash that Peter Andre has now deleted the trailer and all promotional bits for ‘Jafaican’ off his socials, though you can still catch the full trailer on YouTube:

The comments under the trailer are pretty great, to be fair:

Meanwhile on Twitter…

Despite the backlash on social media, it does seem like the film is still set for release later this year. At best, we can probably hope it lands in the ‘so bad it’s good’ category, but who knows? Maybe Peter Andre’s acting chops will blow us all away. Personally I’m hoping for a Mysterious Girl remix on the soundtrack. Make it happen, Peter! Brap!
