Really sad story out of Frisco, Texas, this week as a 17-year-old student died in his twin brother’s arms after being stabbed at a high school track meet following a dumb argument over someone being sat in the wrong seat.
Frisco Memorial High School student Austin Metcalf had been attending a championship track meet alongside his twin brother, Hunter, when the incident occurred.
Austin was stabbed in the heart by Karmelo Anthony, 17, following a seating dispute as the teams waited for the delayed competition to begin.
Austin apparently asked Karmelo to move from the seat, and things heated up from there, resulting in Karmelo pulling out a knife and stabbing him. It’s crazy enough to bring a knife to a track meet, but actually using it on someone over a minor dispute?
Austin’s devastated twin brother Hunter spoke out on the incident:
NEW: The identical twin of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf speaks out after witnessing his brother get stabbed in the chest.
I can’t imagine his pain.

“There was this kid sitting under our tent at track. We asked him to move. He started getting aggressive and talking reckless, and my brother stepped in and said, he needs to move.
He said ‘make me move’. Austin grabbed his backpack. I tried whip around as fast as I could but I didn’t see the stab.
But then I look at my brother, and I’m not going to talk bout the rest. I tried to help him.
It was really senseless. I don’t know why that person would do that to someone just over that little argument.”
The twins father, Jeff Metcalf, also shared his heartbreak over Austin’s death. He told NBC News:
“They were twins, identical twins, and his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms.
“I rushed up there and I saw him on the gurney and I could tell – they said he wasn’t breathing. I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital. And we prayed, and it’s God’s plan, I don’t understand it, but they weren’t able to save him. This is murder.”
Just so you can see what a type of a person Austin’s father is, he also said this about the boy who killed his son:
“I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and he murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart. The guy was in the wrong place and they asked him to move and he bowed up [became angry and aggressive].
“You know what, I already forgive this person. Already. God takes care of things. God is going to take care of me. God is going to take care of my family.”
Heartbreaking stuff. There are some rumours going around online that Austin and Karmelo had an altercation the previous night over a broken phone screen, but there’s no mention of that from his twin brother or his dad or any official outlet. I’m not sure which is the more stupid reason to kill someone, to be honest – a broken phone screen or “you’re sitting in the wrong seat, move.”
Police have of course arrested Karmelo Anthony and charged him with murder, and he is currently being held without bond. Surely he’ll end up with a life sentence?
Austin’s dad Jeff has launched a GoFundMe in honour of Austin, where he described his son as a ‘bright young man with a great future ahead of him’.
RIP Austin and thoughts with his friends and family.
