Yesterday it was Big Ben, and today Tower Bridge is shut down after a mystery man scaled the landmark and forced police to shut down the Thames crossing to traffic.

There’s now crazy congestion to Limehouse back along the Highway and in the one-way system back to Aldgate. Buses are being diverted, and if all that wasn’t bad enough, the Blackwall Tunnel has also been shut down following a crash. Wouldn’t want to be travelling through London right now!

Pretty awesome pictures, I must say. The question is – what the hell is this guy doing up there? Yesterday, the man who climbed Big Ben immediately made it known that he was a pro-Palestinian activist protesting police repression and state violence, but so far the guy on Tower Bridge has kept schtum. No Palestine flag, no comment, no demands, nothing. Did he watch the Big Ben guy go viral on Sunday and think it might be cool to do something similar, albeit without the political message?

Of course, we shouldn’t jump to conclusions about why this man is up there, but hopefully it’s not a suicide attempt or anything that could end in tragedy. The whole thing may even be resolved by the time you read this, so let’s hope that happens in a safe and timely manner, and that the wind doesn’t pick up too much. He’ll get down when he’s good and ready, I’m sure.
