Unreal scenes during the 4×200 meter relay race at Liberty University in Virgina the other day, as Brookville High School sprinter Kaelen Tucker was clobbered over the head with a baton by an opponent after overtaking her on the track. Here’s the footage:

Kaelen reportedly suffered a concussion and a possible fractured skull accoring to local TV station WSLS. Amazingly, the girl who attacked her, Alaila Everett from I.C. Norcom High School, has a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why she bashed this poor girl’s head in with a baton:

“Everybody has feelings, so you’re physically hurt but you are not thinking about my mental, right.
“They are going off of one angle.”
Telling her version of events she said: “After a couple times of hitting her with my baton, I got stuck behind her back like this and it rolled up her back.
“I lost my balance, and when I pumped my arms again, she got hit.
“I know my intentions and I would never hit somebody on purpose.”
See? It was just an accident and not a completely deliberate assault which it (misleadingly) appears to be on screen, that’s all. We’re all just watching from the wrong angle!
An apology might’ve been a better idea, which Alaila claims she tried to do over Facebook only to find that Kaelen had blocked her.
Kaelen’s parents have reportedly contacted the sport’s governing body, who say they have launched an investigation into the (alleged) assault. I guess they’ll have to watch the footage from all the angles before they come to any conclusion.
In the meantime, speedy recovery to Kaelen Tucker whose season is potentially over, given she suffered a concussion and possible fractured skull. Get well soon!
