If you’re a young lady who’s into bad boys, there’s no better place to find them than in the prison system. They’re literally in endless supply! Unfortunately, these affairs between female prison officers and male inmates are almost always uncovered, especially when you fail to be discreet about it.

Case in point: (ex) prison guard Katie Evans, 26, who was this week jailed for 21 months after admitting to being in a sexual relationship with burglar Daniel Brownley at Doncaster Prison.

Evans, who had worked at Doncaster Prison from the age of 21, shared 140 phone calls with Brownley, moved money around in bank accounts for him and told him information the prison had on him. Which is obviously a lot more damning than just carrying on a sexual relationship with him.

Evans made the rookie error of boasting about her sexual exploits to another prison officer, referring to herself as the prisoner’s ‘queen’.

Judge Jeremy Richardson told her in court:

‘It appears you indulged in some form of sexual activity in the prison. It has been described that on one occasion you had oral sex with him.

‘It is truly a terrible situation for a judge to be passing sentence on a former prison officer who has been branded a corrupt prison officer.’

‘I’m entirely satisfied you were manipulated by an experienced criminal to assist him.’

The judge accepted that Evans was ‘young and immature’ when the offending happened in 2020, and said she was susceptible to the manipulation from Brownley.

‘You were inexperienced and immature but that is, however, no excuse for what you did.’

The judge noted that the 21-month sentence should have been longer, but he reduced it ‘purely as an act of mercy’ given that Evans has a young daughter and faces a rough time in prison as a former officer.

In a statement, Serco, which owns Doncaster Prison, said:

‘We have a zero-tolerance approach to any member of staff who fails to meet the standards we expect and on those rare occasions when one of our officers falls short of the required standards, we work closely with the police to investigate the issue fully and when necessary take appropriate action.’

So, with a 21-month sentence, she’ll probably be out in a year which is fair enough really, since she has a young daughter at all. Not to mention – she won’t be able to commit the offence again because there’s no way she’s getting another job within the prison system. Even still, she’s very lucky that the judge saw her as a ‘victim’ and took it so easy on her. After all, she was the one in a position of authority but still somehow ended up being manipulated by a guy who had already served 5-and-a-half years for repeated burglaries, and was back in prison for breaching his license conditions.

Let’s not forget – she did multiple things for him: supplied him with info, moved money around, sucked him off, etc. Unless she was under heavy duress, she was really just abusing her power. Very lucky to get away with 21 months, all things considered.
