Selena Gomez and Samuel L Jackson looked fairly uncomfortable on stage at the Oscars last night after presenting the award for Best Documentary to No Other Land; the film about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that obviously carries a very heavy anti-war and pro-freedom sentiment.

Its directors – who are both Israeli and Palestinian – gave a speech calling for a halt to the devastation in Palestine, which I guess made Hollywood stalwarts Selena Gomez and Samuel L Jackson a little nervous? Watch below:

Funnily enough, Gal Gadot was scheduled to present the award but backed out when she figured that No Other Land might win. Can you imagine the most pro-Israel actress out there having to present an Oscar to Palestine supporters? That would have been a hell of a moment right there.

Anyway, a lip reader has now spoken to MailOnline about what Selena Gomez and Samuel L Jackson said to each other on stage:

While [the speech] was wrapping up, Jackson allegedly told Gomez: ‘He made that speech very political,’ and she purportedly replied: ‘He did, yes.’

Gomez had a faint smile on her face while Jackson talked to her, and after she gave him her response, Jackson was seen laughing.

Political speeches at the Oscars? Come on Samuel L Jackson, this ain’t your first Oscars rodeo! At least this political speech was actually relevant to the award that was being received, and not just a random shot at Donald Trump or something. In any case, people on X weren’t happy with Gomez and Jackson:

Calm down, everyone!

Also at the Oscars, Adrien Brody grossed everyone out with what he did after winning Best Actor. His poor girlfriend…
