Seth Rogen and James Franco were once one of the funniest comedy duos in Hollywood, having worked together on the likes of The Interview, This Is The End and Pineapple Express.

However, ever since James Franco got #MeToo’d in 2018, it seems like Seth Rogen doesn’t really want anything to do with him anymore. Which I suppose is fair enough, from both a professional and personal standpoint.

Franco has basically been blacklisted from Hollywood ever since, but he did get a chance to speak about the death of his friendship with Rogen in an interview with Variety last year:

“I haven’t talked to Seth. I love Seth, we had 20 great years together, but I guess it’s over. And not for lack of trying. I’ve told him how much he’s meant to me.”

This week, Seth Rogen addressed his former friend’s comments in an interview with Esquire, and according to interviewer David Holmes, was ‘clearly not happy’ about being asked. Rogen simply responded:

“Honestly, I absorb so little media that it really wasn’t on my radar.”

Well, fair enough I suppose. Rogen did previously speak out publicly in 2021 when he told the Sunday Times about the stance he was taking on Franco:

“What I can say is that I despise abuse and harassment and I would never cover or conceal the actions of someone doing it, or knowingly put someone in a situation where they were around someone like that.”

“I look back to that interview in 2018 where I comment that I would keep working with James, and the truth is that I have not and I do not plan to right now.

“I can say it, um, you know, it has changed many things in our relationship and our dynamic.”

At the time of the allegations, James Franco eventually ended up settling out of court to the tune of $2.23 million (£1.67 million), after two students of his now-defunct film school accused him of sexual misconduct. Franco admitted sleeping with his students and conceded it was ‘wrong’, but denied opening the school for the sole purpose of creating a pipeline of young wannabe actresses he could have sex with.

Still, after 20 years of friendship, it’s gotta be tough for James Franco to hear his old pal essentially say “I don’t even think about you anymore and didn’t know/care about any comments you made in an interview.” Unless he just says this stuff to save face in public and is secretly still best buds with him? I mean, the chemistry these two had on-screen was undeniable, so it is a shame on that level.
