Welp, looks like the Tyson Fury v Anthony Joshua superfight may not be happening after all, with Tyson Fury having just announced his retirement from the world of boxing.
Here’s the announcement from The Gypsy King himself:

“Hi everybody. I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing.
“It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it and I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, [and] see you on the other side. Get up!”
Fury’s reference to 18th century highwayman Dick Turpin could suggest a public robbery; where he’s either talking about the Usyk decision or maybe even about negotiations regarding the Anthony Joshua fight.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Tyson Fury has ‘retired’ from boxing, having previously announced he was quitting the sport following his 2022 win over Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium. I think he then got bored sitting around and getting hammered all day, and decided to start fighting again.
With any luck, maybe the same thing will happen again, and we’ll get the AJ fight after all. I mean, you can guarantee that there are be promoters trying to coax Fury out of ‘retirement’ already with unthinkable amounts of cash. What better negotiation tactic than pretend you’re retiring?
See you in the summer for Fury/AJ, I reckon.
