We’re still a couple weeks out from the inauguration of Donald Trump, but he’s clearly not waiting around until January 20 to rub it in the face of the world.
The other night, Trump announced (that he plans to announce) that he’s changing the name of ‘The Gulf of Mexico’ to ‘The Gulf of America’:

Just Trump doing Trump things. I actually had to double-check to make sure this wasn’t an AI video at first, but nope, it’s actually 100% on-brand. Honestly wouldn’t surprise me if he then sells a bunch of T-shirts, keychains, car stickers and commemorative coins with ‘Gulf of America’ and ‘New America’ on them. It’s all about branding, branding, branding! Who knows this better than Donald Trump?
Will be interesting to see how Mexico feels about this and how they respond to these plans. Would Trump even do something like this if he thought it wouldn’t upset them? If I’m the President of Mexico, I would just play it cool and act like it doesn’t bother me. The more Trump sees that she’s annoyed, the harder he’s going to try to rename it ‘The Gulf of America’. Anyway, I guess time will tell how serious he is about all this, and what the fallout could be.
