Brit Dies During Brazilian Butt Lift In Turkey After Surgeon ‘Walks Out Half Way Through’

We’ve seen enough warnings in recent years on the dangers of cut-price plastic surgery, and sadly we’re now dealt another example with the death of a British woman who was getting a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) done in Turkey.

38-year-old Hayley Dowell booked herself into the BHT Clinic in Istanbul to get a BBL, liposuction and a tummy tuck, paying over £7,000 for the procedures.

Unfortunately, the BBL operation went horribly wrong, with Hayley suffering an embolism (a fatal issue that can occur due to blood flow blockage), after the surgeon ‘walked out half way’ through the procedure, though the reason why he left the room is still unclear.

Hayley passed away around midnight on 3 October, 2023 (Facebook)

Hayley’s husband, Neil Dowell, who was in Turkey with his wife at the time, claimed that she had not been properly warned of the risks by doctors at the clinic.

Neil explained: “We found a surgeon that had a clinic named after himself. He was one of the (top five) surgeons in Turkey.”

He added that his wife ‘only consented to two’ of the operations that took place last October, saying that no risks were explained to her.

Hayley’s mum echoed these sentiments, claiming her daughter ‘would not have known the risks’ of at least one operation, only consenting to two of them.

Neil also revealed that the six hour operation ‘wound down to one hour 45 [minutes]’ in the end, which seems like a massive red flag.

“The surgeon left halfway through the operation and left the anaesthetist to do the job. You can’t do both at the same time,” he said.

Neil also shockingly revealed: “They asked me to sign the consent form after she passed away, after the BBL.”

The surgeon walked out in the middle of the operation, according to Hayley's husband (BHT Clinic)

Unbelievable. A full inquest is now set to take place in January 2025, with coroner Nicholas Walker conducting a full investigation into the information that Hayley received and the circumstances around her death.

On BHT Clinic’s official website, they claim that they have ‘the technological infrastructure and equipment’ that only a ‘limited number’ of medical centres in the world have. It also states that they apply ‘patient and employee safety in international quality standards based on ethical principles’ with medical procedures. Doesn’t seem to be the case based on this story, does it?

The clinic did not send any representatives to be present at the hearing, and it’s not clear whether they will have one present at the full inquest next year. Which is another giant red flag on their end.

Tragically, Hayley is not the first and probably won’t be the last Brit to die during or following budget surgery in Turkey. According to the Foreign Office website, six Brits died in Turkey in 2023 after surgeries, while 2019-2022 saw 17 Brits pass away after medical visits.

Let’s hope that Hayley’s story will at least make other young women think twice about the pros and cons of BBL surgery. Stick to squats, kids.
