It looks like Premier League referee David Coote is going for the ‘I was off my t1ts’ defense after reportedly admitting that the viral video of him ranting about Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool is real, but also claiming he ‘does not recall’ the incident in his memory.
Initially, David Coote denied any wrongdoing and the suggestion was that the video was AI (lol) and that tech experts had been deployed to examine the clip, but it now looks as though he’s conceded that the clip is 100% real, despite him claiming to not remember it.

In the video, which is believed to be from 2020, Coote seems to have made some new friends at the pub who invite him round to theirs for afters. He seems like he genuinely can’t believe that someone thought he was cool enough to be invited, and so readily calls then-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp a ‘c***’ and says that Liverpool are ‘sh1t’. Even though he’s fully aware that there’s a camera in his face and we live in an era where these things are leaked online every single time.
It would be funny if he denied it at first without watching it but then saw it and thought “oh yeah, sh1t.” Or maybe the PGMOL heard his AI/deepfake excuse and even they thought it was too ridiculous to run with. Either way, it’s a nice little controversy to tide us over during the international break. The question is – will David Coote still be a Premier League referee by the time the next fixtures roll round? Knowing the PGMOL, he could even be in charge of the next Liverpool game. Wouldn’t put it past them…
