It’s still early days in the 2024/25 Premier League season but already the table is starting to take shape and the potential title contenders are emerging.

With all the other teams looking to knock reigning champions Manchester City off their perch at the top of the English game, the Cityzens know the chasing pack will be hot on their heels again this season.

City Still the Team To Beat

Winning the Premier League title for the last four seasons, City have been the dominant force in the English top flight. The Cityzens, who are 7/4 in the betting on Premier League title odds, were pushed all the way for the crown last season, with Arsenal finishing just two points behind them. Arsenal, who 13/10 in the Premier League title odds this term, will be determined to go one better this time around after finishing as runners-up in the past two seasons. The standards required to win the title are higher in the Premier League than any of the other top divisions in Europe. Arsenal only lost five of their 38 league games last season, earned 89 points and still it was not enough to topple Pep Guardiola’s City.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and his side have improved year on year and they will know it could potentially take breaking the 90-point barrier to get the better of the Cityzens this time around. Despite their dominance in the Premier League, Guardiola is still capable of driving the standards at the Etihad Stadium and the hunger to win more trophies never seems to be an issue at City under the Catalonian’s leadership.

Liverpool and Chelsea Seem Renewed

While City and Arsenal have been the top two in the last two Premier League seasons, Liverpool and Chelsea look capable of upsetting the order at the top of the standings this term. Many questioned what would life at Liverpool be like after the departure of manager Jürgen Klopp last summer but his successor Arne Slot has really impressed at the start of his tenure. With practically the same squad from last season, Slot has hit the ground running at Anfield following his move from Eredivisie side Feyenoord. The Dutch tactician has brought a defensive resilience back to Liverpool and they are certainly a team to look out for this season.

Chelsea have also made a positive start to the season under their new manager Enzo Maresca, following the surprising departure of Mauricio Pochettino over the summer. Maresca, fresh off the back of guiding Leicester City to the Championship title, has settled in well to the high-pressure environment that is Stamford Bridge. Having to handle a bulky squad, Maresca has already had to make some tough decisions on selection but his focus has yielded promising results at the start of the campaign. Whether Chelsea have the endurance to go the distance, remains to be seen.

Manchester City will know they can’t rest on their laurels if they are to be crowned Premier League champions for an astonishing fifth year running. With Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea having the potential to go the distance, the 2024/25 Premier League title race could well be another one for the ages.
