A man who slapped a one-year-old girl across the face in Barcelona while raging at tourists has been arrested.

On first watch, it seems pretty mental that the baby girl’s father/guardian didn’t immediately send this guy to the afterlife, but I guess his first instinct was to protect the child and get them as far away from this lunatic as possible. After all, if you’re willing to slap a complete stranger’s one-year-old baby across the face in public, you’re probably insane enough to do anything.

The incident took place on Montjuïc, overlooking the Poble-Sec neighbourhood of Barcelona, on Sunday, El Caso news website reported.

The good news is that police have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting ‘two men and a minor’, one of whom – a 60-year-old man – was hospitalised with facial injuries. The assailant has since been admitted to a psychiatric unit in hospital, which is probably the best he can hope for at this point.

Announcing the arrest on X, police in Catalonia said he has ‘numerous police records’. Shocker.

The man is expected to appear in court this week, but given his mental state he may not be able to make a statement. Let’s hope that whatever happens, he’s not simply let out and put in a position to do something like this ever again.
