Despite being universally panned by critics and audiences alike, Joker 2 received a standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year, which goes to show how much stock you should put into an event like that.
Funnily enough, no one was more bemused by the applause than the movie’s star Joaquin Phoenix, who had a brief exchange with co-star Lady Gaga as they awkwardly soaked up the applause. The internet now believes they’ve worked out what the Joker 2 leads were saying to each other, after running the clip through seven AI lip-reading detectors:

According to the AI, Phoenix tells his co-star: “It’s horrible.”
Gaga apparently replies: “Don’t say that.
“You think so? No, it’s not.
“Why, what are you talking about?
“I love that.”
It’s worth noting that most actors don’t see the finished product until their movies are screened at events like this, so it’s very likely that this is the first time Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga saw Joker 2 for themselves and this is the first conversation they’re having about how terrible it is. Although I suppose Phoenix would have had some kind of inkling already, given his experience. Anyone’s guess whether Gaga is living in a denial or just trying to be a team player with her response, but I’m sure she’s just happy to be involved either way, even if it contributed to how terrible the movie was.
Well anyway, there’s always Joker 3 – not that Todd Phillips will be involved. When asked by The Hollywood Reporter whether he would continue to produce films in the DC universe, the director didn’t seem keen: “I feel like my time in the DC Universe was these two films.”
Probably for the best.
