In what may possibly be the worst PR move in corporation history, Disney is trying to have a widower’s wrongful death lawsuit dismissed because the man had signed up to a Disney+ account several years ago.

Jeffrey J. Piccolo is suing Disney after his wife, Dr. Kanokporn Tangsuan, died from an allergic reaction at a Disney Springs restaurant despite informing the waiter of her severe allergy.

Piccolo said in his complaint that he, his wife and his mum went to dinner at Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant at the Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida, last Oct. 5th. They asked several times whether Tangsuan’s allergies could be accommodated. Despite the server assuring them, Tangsuan had a severe allergic reaction and died at a local hospital the same night.

Disney responded by filing court documents saying the $50,000 lawsuit should be dismissed and resolved by individual arbitration because of terms Piccolo agreed to when he signed up for a free trial of the streaming service Disney+ years earlier. Say what?!

So, what the f*ck is Disney playing at? The guy’s wife dies on their watch, he sues for virtually nothing, and they come back at him with this madness? The Walt Disney Company is currently worth $160 BILLION, and yet they’re still looking for a way to dodge a $50,000 payout after their incompetence resulted in a woman dying at one of their restaurants. They should have written this guy a cheque for double what he was asking for and everyone would have moved on with their lives. Their accountants probably wouldn’t have even noticed. But instead, Disney try to shut this man down altogether and now this story is going viral, all over a measly $50,000.

I hope this guy ends up with $10 million now. Surely no judge in their right mind would accept Disney’s argument, and side with the @rseholes who claim you can’t sue for wrongful death because you signed up for a free trial on a streaming service in 2019. I mean, I don’t doubt that something as diabolical as this is buried in their terms & conditions that nobody reads, but surely, SURELY, justice will prevail in this case.

Even in a world where Disney wins and doesn’t have to pay out anything to this poor widower, it would be a massive blow to their already-dwindling reputation. You would guess that one of the biggest, most successful companies in the world would have sensible lawyers who would advise Disney to pay up and make this story go away, but maybe we’re underestimating just how evil a corporation they are.

If you have any food allergies and also happen to have a subscription to Disney+, maybe pack your own lunch before visiting Disney World.
