In case you missed it, 80-year-old Hollywood tough guy Danny Trejo was filmed getting into a fist fight last week after some douche bag lobbed a water balloon at his car during a July 4th parade. Here’s the footage:

Well, he is 80 years old, so it’s not surprising he ended up on his @rse there, but fair play to Danny Trejo for sticking up for himself anyway. The Machete legend has now spoken out over the incident, telling TMZ:

“I’m so sad that I behaved the way I behaved. I’m so sad that grown men gotta throw water balloons to enjoy a day. I don’t think I would’ve even got out of the car if somebody hadn’t yelled, ‘It’s acid!’ That’s when I got panicked. When I got out of the car — boom! — then a balloon hit me. Then I look up and I see a guy holding [one]. I went over [and said,] ‘What in the hell is wrong with you?”

Trejo claimed that he “stepped back” and “fell off the curb” after a man tried to grab him. He also seemed to insinuate that he thought the incident was racially motivated.

“I’m sad. I’m just sad. There’s still people like from the ’50s and ’60s that still feel the same way, because no one else was targeted. No one else was targeted.”

The good news is – Danny Trejo said he wasn’t injured during the incident:

“I’m alright. They couldn’t hurt me. It was sad… I would be embarrassed if I attacked an 80-year-old man and he’s still talking and laughing.”

Well I’m not sure an apology was necessary, but the whole world immediately forgives you anyway, Danny Trejo. Just glad he’s OK as getting pushed off a pavement onto the floor would probably be lethal for any other 80-year-old on the planet, but not for the hardest octogenarian in Hollywood. Don’t mess:
