The Dutch version of “Endgame”, the new book on the royal family by author Omid Scobie, has been pulled from shelves in the Netherlands after ‘accidentally’ naming the royal family member who committed the mortal sin of speculating what the colour of Harry & Meghan’s baby would be.
With a title like ‘Endgame’, many people thought that maybe Thanos was the royal racist, but the person named in the book is actually…. *drumroll*
King Charles himself (allegedly)! Now obviously there’s a lot of controversy around this because Omid Scobie did not name Charles in the original English version of the book, and doesn’t speak Dutch himself, so it’s anyone’s guess how King Charles was identified as the royal racist in the Dutch version.
The most popular theory seems to be that Harry & Meghan or maybe just one of them came up with the ploy alongside Scobie to a) throw Charles under the bus and b) drum up controversy and publicity for the book. For what it’s worth, Scobie insists he never spoke to Harry & Meghan about the book, and says all his information is gathered via insider contacts, palace aides and “mutual friends”.
Interestingly, the book itself has been described as a ‘biased takedown’ of the British monarchy and is very much #TeamMeghanAndHarry. Scobie even writes that King Charles and Prince William are at odds, portraying Wills as ambitious, ruthless, and utterly impatient for his turn on the throne.
Well, if this is all Meghan’s doing, you have to be admit it’s a stroke of genius as far as royalist warfare goes. Sneaky, underhanded, and out of order? Perhaps. But then I guess she and Harry still feel hard done by over the whole thing. Especially with Family Guy now ripping the p1ss out of them too.
