Danny Dyer is definitely a favourite here on Sick Chirpse. What’s not to like about the lovable east end Cockney geezer and his impressive acting ability where he plays a lovable East End Cockney geezer in every single movie he has ever been in, a role he also reprises in the incredible Danny Dyer’s football factories. Yeah, a real hero. In case you missed it there’s been a bunch of Danny Dyer content on Sick Chirpse like Danny Dyer getting interviewed on acid, Danny Dyer starring in a Coca Cola commercial and Danny Dyer getting prank called by a Scottish comedian which are all GREAT by the way.
This post is about the ongoing legacy of Danny Dyer which was added to today though. As you might have been aware today was not only the day that Andy Murray won the US Open but all the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States which I’m sure everyone knows about. A bunch of people on twitter and Facebook have had the usual generic status updates such as ‘my heart will always be with the victims of 9/11’ or ‘thinking of everyone who lost someone that fateful day 11 years ago’ which is nice and cool and everything if a little unbelievable – I mean will your heart ALWAYS be with them? This isn’t a Celine Dion sing. I offered my own condolences on my twitter account with my own short story from that day which actually managed to get retweeted 5 times for some reason:
Anyway, my story was nothing on what Danny Dyer decided to serve up. For some reason I was unaware that Danny Dyer was even on twitter, so if anything this story is worth it just for that information. In a tweet that has since been deleted, Danny Dyer offered the following wisdom on the 9/11 attacks.
‘Can’t believe it’s been nearly 11 years since them slags smashed into the twin towers it still freaks my nut out to this day’
Of course, the online world responded with typical puzzlement and disdain at the fact that Danny Dyer had referred to terrorists as slags. In fairness this is a confusing statement for Danny to make as it’s unlikely that the guys who perpetrated the 9/11 attacks are the same kind of people that Danny Dyer would normally be pounding after a few shandies down at his local East End boozer, but I don’t really think it deserves the outrage that it is currently causing on twitter.
Here are a few highlights:
Hi, @MrDDyer, this account is working on a computer game and would like you to do the voices. It’s called Slags vs Terrorists.
Thanks to Danny Dyer I’ve just typed ‘slags’ into google instead of what I really wanted to search for.
Danny Dyer new show… World’s Deadliest Slags. #slags
Even though he’s such a bellend, Danny Dyer is definitely the funniest person on twitter. Calling the 9/11 terrorists ‘slags’ hahaha.
Thanks Danny Dyer. I’m sure America feels better about the slags now.
So @MrDDyer called Osama bin laden and his terrorist group a bunch of ‘slags‘ what a fvcking idiot he is!!!!
sort of can’t believe Danny Dyer just tweeted from a verified acct referring to 9/11 terrorists as ‘them slags‘ 0_0 it just makes NO SENSE.
For Danny Dyer, there was no “war on terror”, only the ongoing “war on slags”.
Danny dyer honestly just used the word ‘slags‘ to describe the 9/11 bombers.
So yeah I’m thinking this reaction is a bit over the top you know? I mean all he did was call them slags, what would you have preferred he called them? Cunts? Berks? ? Geezers? Hoodies? If he had used any other kind of East End slang – which let’s face it he was definitely going to as it’s the only way he knows how to talk – he was going to get ripped so I don’t think it’s really that bad that he said slags, if anything it’s just jokes and he was only living up to his East End stereotype. Chill out bros.
In case you think I’m making all this up, here’s a screenshot of the tweet before all this backlash forced him to delete it:
