A lot of talk about double standards and hypocrisy today after Countdown legend Carol Vorderman appeared on Have I Got News For You, and was asked whether she would sh@g Laurence Fox. I think you probably know the answer to that one already, but here’s how Fox responded to the clip on Twitter:
I feel physically sick at the idea of being objectified as a sex object by a “comedy” show.
What about my human rights?
They are the exact thing they accuse you of.
— Laurence Fox (@LozzaFox) October 8, 2023
I think an important bit of context here is that HIGNFY is a comedy/satire show, whereas Fox was on a news programme when he made those infamous comments about Ava Evans. Plus, the whole point of the bit was to use Fox’s own words to mock him. That’s not to say that there isn’t a double standard when it comes to objectifying men and women in the media, but in this case I think it was just a topical joke that was playing off the original incident on GB News.
In any case, Coren Mitchell said she would sh@g him, so 1 out of 2 isn’t bad. Even still, has to be a little bit painful for Fox seeing Vorderman pull this face at the thought of it:
