As the guy who pretty much invented the six-pack, you would think that Peter Andre was safe from body image issues. Well, apparently not.
Andre, 50, became a household name almost 30 years ago after bursting onto the scene with his six-pack and curtains hairstyle in the Mysterious Girl video:
In a new interview with OK, the pop legend has admitted he actually has serious insecurities about his body to this day, and it’s all because of a sneaky photo that a paparazzi took of him on a beach in the Bahamas.
Despite Googling things like ‘Peter Andre belly’, ‘Peter Andre fat’ and ‘Peter Andre Bahamas’, I can’t for the life of me find this photo that triggered Andre’s body image issues, as he looks completely shredded in every photo. Apparently though it’s very real and was displayed among headlines reporting on his weight gain at the time.
Recalling the photo, Andre said:
“I was alone on a beach in the Bahamas, so I took my shirt off and went in the water.
The sea was really rough and when I came out I remember I was gasping. There was some paparazzi photographer in the trees and he must have caught me breathing out.
The photo got sent all around the world and it was the first time people had seen me like that since the early days.
I remember the headlines – ‘Andre piles on the pack’. People who were heavier than me might have thought, ‘But he looks alright’, but in my mind I looked like Brendan Fraser in The Whale.
We never see what other people see.”
The effect of this sent his confidence spiralling, with him adding:
“Now, I’ve got this psychological link to something and it’s stopping me just freely walking around the beach – I just won’t do it. It’s ridiculous.”
Peter Andre too insecure to take his top off on the beach? Well, I never. Come on Pete, I’m sure you look better than every other 50-year-old on the beach. Let your hair down!
Plus, how can he insecure about his belly and not Rebekah Vardy saying his penis looks like a ‘small chipolata’? Now that was uncalled for.
