Walking out on a paying audience because they are too ‘low energy’ seems like a crazy thing to do as an artist, but somehow it’s also exactly the sort of thing you’d expect Lil Wayne to do at this point of his career.
Wayne was at the Wiltern in LA for the last stop of his Welcome to the Carter tour (isn’t that convenient?), and turned up on stage 3 hours late (!). After 30 minutes, he left the stage and had a few of his young artists fill in. Then he came back out and told them to stop performing too:
I will never go to another Lil Wayne concert again after he arrived 3.5 hours late then performed for 30 had intermission put his new artist to perform then came out and canceled the rest of the concert because the crowd wasn’t hype enough for his new artist. #wiltern #lilwayne pic.twitter.com/hB9u4DfHof

“We appreciate it, but we ain’t about to be bending over backwards for these folks. We work too hard for this s—. We work way too hard.”
Again, you’d think the fact these people paid money to attend the show would indicate they’re happy to be there, but apparently that’s not good enough for Lil Wayne who needs you to bring an appropriate amount of energy as well. In fairness he was pretty polite about the whole thing, but he did essentially tell the crowd they sucked and to f*ck off, and that’s no good when you’re a paying customer, is it? Let’s just hope they got their hard-earned money back eh?
