MMA fighter Jake Shields kicked up some controversy when he challenged 10 trans male fighters to face him without breaks between bouts – and now trans wrestler Mark Beggs has answered the call and boasted he will ‘f*ck up’ the former UFC star.
Shields is pretty militant about his anti-trans views, once Tweeting (then deleting) that anyone who supports child transitions should be publicly executed. He’s now offered to take on a gauntlet of 10 trans men in a row, the idea being that if he demolishes all of them, it proves that biological women should not be fighting biological men in the combat sports, no matter how they identify.
For a while it seemed like no trans fighter was up for it, but then Mark Beggs – an amateur wrestler who transitioned in 2017 – stepped up:
‘We just going to make this an official call out, but Jake Shields I will take you up on your offer,’ he said.
But the offer isn’t going to be 10 versus one and 10 trans men you’re going to be fighting for the rest of the night.
You’re going to do a one-on-one type match.
You’re going to do it right. If you’re going to call yourself a fighter do it f***ing right.
Like, that’s just f***ing disrespectful. It’s disrespectful to the sport of MMA for you to just be like ‘oh yeah let me just call out 10 trans men and I’ll f***ing whoop them.
And [to ask] if there even is any trans man fighters out there. And there is.
The fact that everyone is like ‘oh yeah like trans women are f***ing up the fighting world. Hey, we still here too bro.
We still here, we’ve always been here.
It’s the fact that y’all are so fixated and hyper-fixated and have some f***ing fetish with trans women that you even forget that we f***ing out here and we going to f*** you up.
I’m specifically going to f*** you up Jake Shields.’
Jake Shields has already accepted the challenge, so now they just need to set it all up. On Beggs’ insistence, it will just be a straight one-on-one showdown between them, which could prove to be a total disaster for Shields if he loses after claiming he could beat 10 trans men in a row. I mean, despite being 42 years old, he should easily dispatch this 24-year-old trans man, given the physical advantages he has from being born a male. That’s what he’s set out to prove, anyway.
Beggs has only ever competed against women, as per laws in his native Texas. For years we’ve heard the debate about trans women fighting biological women (and how that can often end up terribly), but I’d never heard anyone complain when it comes to the male category doing the same thing.
Should be an interesting day on social media when this all goes down…
