In what has to be the biggest A-list line-up since Ocean’s Eleven way back in 2001, writer/director/producer Wes Anderson (Moonrise Kingdom, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Grand Budapest Hotel) has rounded up a serious collection of talent for his upcoming drama ‘Asteroid City’, landing in June 2023.
Here’s the trailer:
Just when you thought a Wes Anderson film couldn’t look more ‘Wes Anderson’. The synopsis is as follows:
ASTEROID CITY takes place in a fictional American desert town circa 1955. The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.
The cast, as mentioned, is unreal:
To be fair, I’m not sure Wes Anderson has a film that isn’t star-studded, but this one seems exceptionally so which all the heavyweight names in there. It’s already packed with enough star power before you even get to Jeff Goldblum, Willem Dafoe, and Michael Cera at the bottom of the list. Oh, guess who else is in it…
What the…? I didn’t spot him in the trailer but maybe I wasn’t paying close enough attention. Very cool if he does turn up as a cowboy though. Apparently actors have been known to take huge pay-cuts just to work with Wes Anderson, and you have to think that’s the case here unless this movie has one of the biggest film budgets of all time. Worth checking out when it drops in time for summer.
