No word on what this ‘on-set incident’ actually involved, but I’m going to guess he either beat the shxt out of someone or swapped someone’s heart medication with an Ibuprofen placebo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, producers attempted to ‘smooth things out’, but the actor was ultimately let go from the project.
Which is too bad, because he’s lost a leading role in the eight-episode series from Ridley Scott. Mando’s role has been recast, with Narcos alum Wagner Moura set to take on the part. Which is a fantastic replacement, to be fair.
The series is based on Dennis Tafoya’s book ‘Dope Thief’, which is about two friends in Philadelphia posing as DEA agents to rob an unknown house in the countryside, only to unwittingly find the biggest hidden narcotics corridor on the Eastern seaboard. Mando was poised to play Manny Cespedes, one of the two main characters. He seems a really likable actor so let’s hope whatever happened isn’t something stupid and life-altering enough to have Mando blacklisted forever. You rarely hear about conflicts so bad that roles are recast so let’s hope we see him in another show soon so that we don’t have to worry about Michael Mando being Hollywood’s latest cancelled celebrity.
