I’m sure that a lot of us dream of leaving the problems of every day reality behind and kicking back without a care in the world for a couple of weeks, but I doubt any of us facilitate that fantasy by getting into a life sized wolf costume and spending those days pretending to be one of the animals.

However, this IS the way that 32 year old Japanese ‘professional’ Toru Ueda likes to unwind. Ueda spent $23,000 on the manufacture of the costume from Zeppet – a company that makes them for movies and television after he saw a similar life-sized dog costume on the internet – and the brief took almost fifty weeks for Zeppet to complete, but Ueda couldn’t be happier with the results:
Because of my love for animals since childhood and some realistic animal suits appearing on TV, I dreamed of being one someday.
At the final fitting, I was amazed at my transformed self in the mirror.
It was a moment when my dream come true.
My order to ‘look like a real wolf walking on hind legs’ was difficult – to say the least – but the complete suit looked exactly like what I imagined.
Not only did the specs perfectly cover all of my preferences, but the ventilation slit for the wearer’s comfort and the devices that let the wearer put it on without help showed me that the designers paid close attention to the wearer’s comfort.
It gives me a power that I don’t feel in every day life.
When I look in the mirror, I see a wolf, and that is very moving,.
I’m not a werewolf — that’s a kind of monster, and I am not a monster.
When I wear my costume I feel I’m no longer human.
I’m free of human relationships.
All kinds of troubles, related to work and other things — I can forget about them.
Well, whatever you need to do to take a load off guy. Worryingly though none of the articles I’ve read about this guy tell us what he actually does when he’s dressed up as a wolf, with the closest being that he likes to ‘entertain at home’ – whatever that means. All of the photos have him wandering around parks and similar though which could actually be kinda scary if he came across some people just hanging out minding their own business. Let’s hope he doesn’t lean into the wolf fantasy too much.
Not sure if it’s weirder if he roams around outside or just spends all his time indoors in the wolf suit, or just that he likes dressing up as a wolf in general. Up to you to decide but if he’s not hurting anyone and essentially minding his own business in it then I don’t see the problem. Maybe we’ll start seeing more people doing this. Wouldn’t put it past anyone the way 2023 is going.
For more of the same, check out this super anxious goat that only calms down when she wears a pig costume. Must be universal to all animals or something.
