£800,000 seems like an obscene amount of money to pay for an engagement ring, but I guess that’s the effect Love Island host Maya Jama had on NBA star Ben Simmons, who she was briefly engaged to last year.
And who can blame the guy?
Ben popped the question at his £3.7million mansion in New Jersey following a whirlwind seven-month romance, but it didn’t work out and the pair split months ago. Despite this, Maya Jama has held on to the near-million pound engagement ring he bought her, and according to MailOnline, has now had to send her a legal letter demanding the ring back. Seems fair enough really?
A source told the paper:
“Ben was really shocked when she left and didn’t give him the ring back.
He was madly in love with her and thought it was forever so was really p***ed she didn’t give it back. It cost around $1million and they were engaged less than a year.”
I don’t know if Maya ever explicitly refused to return the ring, but it’s pretty outrageous that she’s still holding on to it months after they broke up. UK law stipulates that engagement rings are gifts and can be kept, and seeing as she lives in London, maybe she could keep the ring if she really wanted to. In the US though, engagement rings are seen as conditional gifts, so I’m sure any any lawyer worth his salt would be able to help Simmons out with that one.
Well anyway, she really should have returned the ring without him having to ask, but I guess Maya Jama has more important things on her mind now – like being the new face of Love Island and rubbing her success in Stormzy’s – her other ex – face. It’s all coming up Maya Jama!
