Face slapping has been a steadily growing sport over the past few years and it looks set to get even bigger in the near future after Dana White announced he was starting a league, but it’s worth taking a look at just how brutal the damage can be in this format of fighting.

Twitter user @Matysek posted the following clips/images from a Romanian promotion called the RXF Slap Fighting Championship, where two men slapped each other in the face over and over again for 30 minutes. Comsa Sorin’s face is completely disfigured and covered in blood after half an hour of getting pummelled without any way of defending himself, but he somehow still came out with the win and €5000 in prize money, alongside the coveted championship belt.

Yeah that just doesn’t look fun to be competing in does it? I suppose you can say the same about MMA or any sort of combat sport, but I think the difference there is that at least you have the ability to defend yourself; in this you literally just have to take getting slapped in the face over and over again. For 30 minutes.
That’s obviously great for everyone watching at home – presumably late at night getting stoned with a pizza – but you gotta feel for those guys actually taking part. Can see there being some kind of protest about this when White’s league gets off the ground. Not that it will actually end up doing anything though.
